    The 005 Lounge Chair by Max Lamb is a tough piece of furniture. Yet a hard-as-nails first impression soon gives way to a visual softness and physical comfort. Lamb explains that he began by investigating pine; how it is grown, sawn, received, sold. His approach thereafter was logical; choosing off-the-shelf sections of wood and piecing them together to create a large surface area and logical form. Material is scooped out of the building block-like forms to make two ample convex recesses, revealing the characterful grain within. The result is a strikingly singular modern lounge chair, ‘mathematical in its approach and transparent in its construction’ says Lamb.

    Made in Finland of Finnish pine.

    Material: Scots Pine. This modern lounge chair is crafted from pine—a soft wood that, over time, will get dents and scratches. However, these imperfections should be seen as signs of aging that add character, not as flaws. Pine also naturally changes color as it ages, with the light wood gradually becoming a beautiful honey hue.

    Material Characteristics

    Pine gets better with age. The colours mature to a deeper palette. The heartwood and sapwood age at different speeds and bring out the natural patterns of the grains. After a few years, the wood used in your lounge chair develops into a rich and complex honey tone.

    Pine is a soft wood and will get dents and bruises over the years. But don’t think of them as blemishes or flaws. Embrace them. They’re evidence of life lived and furniture loved. Pine isn’t life-proof. It’s proof of life.
